Since more than 12 months, the project management and the consortium have been working on adapting the entire project to the new circumstances – circumstances dictated by Russia´s war against Ukraine. The reorientation of the project was formally conducted as a complex amendment to the grant agreement. This amendment has been fine-tuned several times until it could eventually be approved by the grant giving institution – the EU. And it was approved!

The entire consortium is glad to proceed and go on with the implementation of the work programme on firm ground.  The consortium is grateful towards the EC for a very good collaboration, and about the opportunity to reorient the project.

The key elements of the adaptation are:

- to pursue the scientific-technical European collaborations around research infrastructures and RI upgrade projects, now without the partners from Russia from the first phase of the project;

- to introduce two work packages with a bundle of dedicated coordination and support measures for Ukraine, its RI landscape and for scientists from Ukraine: these measures will also be used to establish and strengthen ties between the RIs in Europe and those in Ukraine, which will be relevant to support the sustainability of the RIs in Ukraine under current circumstances.

During the work on the amendment, the consortium has invited two more partners form Ukraine: the NSC Kharkiv Institute of Physics and Technology (KIPT), and the Science and Technology Center in Ukraine (STCU) – an international institution with its headquarters in Kyiv. Together with the Kyiv Institute of Nuclear Research (INR NASU), the EURIZON consortium now comprises three participants from Ukraine, and 27 participants altogether.

The consortium is looking forward to further collaborating on cutting-edge technologies for physical and analytical RIs, and to contributing to support Ukraine in difficult times.
